Tappan Zee Constructors announced that it will be realigning Rockland-bound traffic near the Westchester landing during the overnight hours of Friday, Jan. 18, prompting lane and ramp closures in the area.
TZC said that the work will require overnight lane closures on the northbound/westbound New York State Thruway (I-87/I-287) starting at 8 p.m. and a temporary closure of the exit 9 (Tarrytown – Sleepy Hollow – Route 9) northbound on-ramp from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. Saturday. Northbound/westbound drivers will be detoured to exit 8.
Additional work and lane closures are scheduled to occur near the Rockland landing during the overnights of Tuesday, Jan. 22, and Wednesday, Jan. 23. At least one Rockland-bound lane will remain open except when New York State Police troopers stop and temporarily hold traffic for approximately 15 minutes during the early morning hours of Thursday, Jan. 24. There will be no lane closures in the Westchester-bound direction.
A complete breakdown of the closures can be found above.
According to TZC, additional work includes the removal of anchor span materials, excavation and barrier installation near the bridge’s landings and rebar installation on the pedestrian path barrier. Crews will also be dismantling the old bridge’s pile caps, piles and passions and there will be fence installation and internal work on Thruway Maintenance and New York State Police facilities.
